5 Tips for a Well-Crafted Press Release | |||
| 1. | Be concise. Editors can receive hundreds of releases a week and appreciate those that are to the point. Avoid excessive use of adjectives and fancy languages: Editors want to know who, what, where, when and, most importantly, why, so save the lengthy descriptions for your advertising. | |||
| 2. | Be timely. If your release isn't topical, consider incorporating it with a recent news event, but only if they are truly synergistic. | |||
| 3. | Be factual. “We're the best” or “we’re the coolest” will turn off most editors. Press releases may be intended for self-promotion, but you should avoid statements of belief. | |||
| 4. | Be honest. Padded quotes by company officers, even if they are experts, come across as biased and are rarely used. | |||
| 5. | Be careful. Bad spelling and poor grammar are the quickest way to the trash folder. | |||
