5 Tips for a Well-Crafted Press Release
1. Be concise. Editors can receive hundreds of releases a week and appreciate those that are to the point. Avoid excessive use of adjectives and fancy languages: Editors want to know who, what, where, when and, most importantly, why, so save the lengthy descriptions for your advertising.
2. Be timely. If your release isn't topical, consider incorporating it with a recent news event, but only if they are truly synergistic.
3. Be factual. “We're the best” or “we’re the coolest” will turn off most editors. Press releases may be intended for self-promotion, but you should avoid statements of belief.
4. Be honest. Padded quotes by company officers, even if they are experts, come across as biased and are rarely used.
5. Be careful. Bad spelling and poor grammar are the quickest way to the trash folder.
