5 Tips to Becoming a Better Public Speaker
1. Know your stuff. For some of us scaredy-cats, preparation means memorization, and there’s really nothing wrong with that, as long as you can make your words appear casual rather than rehearsed.
2. Practice, practice, practice. With strangers. With a tape recorder. In front of a mirror, your children, your parents or friends. On video. Wherever you can, even while you’re driving.
3. Listen to others speak, and watch them listen. Babies get their verbal cues from watching others, and you can too.
4. Find a friend. During your presentation, pick out two or three friendly faces spread throughout your audience, and establish eye contact.
5. Don't attempt too much. Your audience will probably only take away two or three solid points from your presentation, so less might be more.
