5 Random Money Savers
1. Book airfare either really early or really late. Buy before the advance purchase price-hiking benchmarks; airline ticket prices typically go up 21 days, 14 days, 7 days and 3 days before flying. Or, if you're more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of traveler, many times there are last-minute tickets available at a great price, if the airlines haven't filled their planes. And with airlines now charging for checking bags, remember to pack light!
2. Cluster your driving errands. With gas more than 4 dollars a gallon in some areas, you can cut down on gas usage by grouping nearby pitstops and visiting them in one fell swoop.
3. Use rewards credit cards. Besides paying your credit card bills in full--and on time--each month, use cards that give something back, whether it's a straight cash dividend or purchase points for products or services you know you will use.
4. Cancel subscriptions to magazines you don't read. We all have magazines we want to read and had the best intentions of reading when we subscribed, but if there's a stack of a particular title in a corner, unread, it may be time to reconsider.
5. Use Google-hosted email. It's free!
