5 Really Easy Ways to Get Free Publicity
1. Send out press releases. Why not? Nowadays, you don't even have to factor in the cost of paper, and if you can tie in what you're doing with a current event or trend, all the better. Compile the names of media outlets that might be interested in your business, and send e-releases to announce anything newsworthy--a new product or location, or even charitable work. Just be sure to give recipients the ability to opt-out.
2. "Address" your audience. Whether you write an opinion piece in your local newspaper or participate in online discussion groups, your signature always should include your web address.
3. Think link. Many websites feature "links" pages. Contact like-minded, complementary or just plain cool websites that do to see if they would consider a free trade, their link on your site for yours on theirs.
4. Ask happy customers or clients to provide you with testimonials that you can post on your website. The more opportunities you have to mention your business, particularly in association with others, increases your chances of popping up in search engine listings. In return for their praise, you can provide a link to their websites as well.
5. Go to YouTube. Channel your inner skateboarding dog--in other words, come up with a unique and attention grabbing concept--and shoot your own digital ad to upload. You just never know what will catch on.
