5 Good Posture Tips for Those Who Sit All Day
1. Sit up straight. Align your ears, shoulders and hips in one vertical line, and avoid unbalanced postures, such as crossing legs unevenly or hunching shoulders.
2. Choose office furniture that is not only ergonomically designed, but that fits your body.
3. Sit with your back against the back of your chair with knees at hip level. If necessary, use props, such as a footrest or small pillow placed behind your back, to take the strain off your spine.
4. When conducting a conference call, don't cradle or wedge the phone in the crook of your neck. Either use the speakerphone or invest in a pair of telephone headphones.
5. Get up and move! Believe it or not, even good sitting positions can be tiring and cause slumping, slouching or other bad postures. Stand up every 20 to 30 minutes either to stretch or to do an alternate activity, such as laundry or walking the dog.
