5 Tips for Being Good to Your Hands this Winter
1. Use a mild pH soap when washing your hands, and moisturize them afterwards with a lotion that contains ingredients, such as shea butter, that help lock in your skin's natural moisture.
2. Moisturize from the inside too. Stay hydrated. Drink lots of water.
3. Perform gentle hand and finger exercises regularly. Try the "Thumb Walk": Holding your wrist straight, form the letter "O" by lightly touching your thumb to each fingertip. After each "O", straighten and spread your fingers.
4. If you don't mind them, wear gloves while washing dishes. Dishwashing liquid may dissolve grease and dirt, but it strips your skin of its natural oils too.
5. Don't forget about your wrists! A keyboard tray will help keep your wrists level while typing, or just adjust your chair so that your keyboard and mouse are below your elbows.
